At our Streaky Bay distillery, we are genuine about wanting to contribute to a sustainable future. We've undertaken several initiatives to minimise our ecological footprint and promote sustainability, and we're excited to share the steps we've taken to be environmentally responsible.
Planting Over 800 Trees
Over the past six years, we've planted more than 800 trees around our distillery with all members of our family stepping in (Thanks Pop, who has by far planted the most). Trees play a crucial role in reducing carbon dioxide levels, improving air quality, and providing habitats for wildlife. This ongoing effort is our way of giving back to nature and ensuring a greener, healthier environment for future generations.
Recycling Rainwater for Condenser Cooling
Water conservation is a critical aspect of our sustainability efforts. We live in an arid environment where water is a precious commodity. We cool our condenser using constantly rotating recycled rainwater, significantly reducing our reliance on external water sources. This system not only conserves water but also ensures that our distillation process is efficient and environmentally friendly. By harnessing the natural resources available to us, we’re able to reduce waste and operate more sustainably.
Harnessing Solar Power
In our quest to reduce our carbon footprint, we've installed solar panels that generate renewable energy. These panels not only provide power to our distillery but also feed surplus energy back into the grid. This renewable energy source goes some way towards powering our still, reducing our reliance on non-renewable energy sources and contributing to a cleaner, greener planet.
Eco-Friendly Practices in Our Horse Float Bar
Sustainability extends to every aspect of our operations, including our horse float bar. We use biodegradable cups, cardboard containers and utensils, ensuring that even our disposable items have minimal environmental impact. These cups decompose naturally, unlike traditional plastic cups that can take hundreds of years to break down. This small change helps us reduce waste and promote eco-friendly practices.
Looking Ahead
Our journey towards sustainability is ongoing, and we're continually seeking new ways to reduce our environmental impact. From planting trees and conserving water to harnessing solar power and using biodegradable materials, every step we take brings us closer to our goal of a sustainable, eco-friendly distillery.
